"Catch me in the act of searching"- Sarah Kay

This is the place where I question everything out loud and try to process my thoughts. So my words are not written in stone here, they're just random thoughts. Nostalgic stuff, politics, feminism, religion and the lack thereof, queer theory, rants, cute... feel free to call me out on my shit on anon

On coming out

I need to talk about my experience coming out and the lessons I learned from it in the context of abuse. I need to talk about the harm and good of coming out and what it means to be out, as in being out to some people but not everyone. And I need to talk about the ways being out to some people but not others has benefited me and continues to benefit my life. I need to sit down and poor my heart out so I can process. From beginning to end. Then post that to share with people. Maybe make it a zine. Maybe make the art for the front page too? Keeping in mind out politics. That some people think it s immoral not to do it, that you re doing a disservice to yourself and others. That some people think it s immoral to do it because you are putting yourself ahead of others and will sever relationships intentionally.

Do they sell this tea at Fresh Grocers?

Ok!!!!

This is a dumb post. Those non black kids who grow up in predominately black neighborhoods who attend predominately black schools who hang out with predominantly black friends are of course going to pick up AAVE in their everyday vocabulary are y’all fucking stupid? If a black person grows up in a predominately white neighborhood in a predominately white school with predominately white friends do you think they’re going to know first hand how to speak AAVE especially if their parents don’t speak AAVE that often within the household?

Please think.

1. Literally the entire time I was reading this, this is what I was thinking. I’m one of those black people who supposedly talk ‘white’. And you know why? Surprise Surprise, the majority of the neighborhoods I lived in were predominately white. Some AAVE is there thanks to my family and some of the black neighborhoods I lived in, but mostly…I sound like a Bethany.

2. The amount of people doing said ‘vernacular’ matters too. You don’t meet a few Arab people and suddenly pick up their way of speech. That’s not how it works.

I understand the frustration with other races trying to ‘pretend to be’ or ‘act’ black, but this and that are two completely different things. The science of linguistics aside, this is common sense.

(Side note: Saying ’black accent’ on its own is problematic, but we won’t discuss that this session)

White people arent oppressed for “talking white” and it’s not even a cultural thing anyway. And what’s wrong with the term black accent when that literally describes what non black people do? Especially when they first meet a black person they put on a black accent.

Its like people are going out of their way to miss the point. Black people can and often do grow up around non black people but you dont see us taking on every negative stereotype and turn ourselves into a mockery of their cultures. I didnt suddenly start acting like a racist caricature of a Latino just because I spent most of my years around Mexicans. I still sound like I’m from South Jersey. But non black people will spend a week next to a black family and turn into a walking minstrel show and have the nerve to act like they’re entitled to it, all the while complaining about appropriation and gentrification. There is a reason why they all sound the same no matter where they actually grow up, even though black linguistics vary based off of the region of the US that you are in. That reason is antiblackness. They dont think black culture can be diverse or complex so they all do the same caricatures and it’s always based on what white media shows them, never how we actually are.

Portland cops attacked the antifascist protesters with flash bang grenades, claiming that they “saw some weapons.” Whereas the fascist Patriot Prayer crowd did have weapons, and the police protected them.

Just in case you need further proof which side the state is on.

Police had already confiscated several weapons including a a firearm from the fash before working out a deal to ‘not check the fascist for weapons’.

ie. The fash were allowed to parade around armed, while police attack anti fascists for them!
